Traditional Dinner with an Omani Family

Hospitality is at the heart of Omani culture, and there is no better way to experience it than as a guest in a family home. Your guide collects you in the early evening and introduces you to a family in a village near Muscat. You are welcomed in the majlis with Omani coffee, dates and halwa, then invited to share a dinner cooked in the family kitchen — dishes like shuwa (marinated lamb slow-cooked underground), mashuai, harees and fresh rukhal bread, followed by fruit and sweet tea. Your host will happily talk about traditions, dress, weddings and daily life, and your guide translates where needed. Dress modestly; shoes are removed at the door.
